This is called the tower of silence. The parsee in India use this to dump bodies of their loved ones. From there vultures (which you can see in the picture) eat their bodies. The parsee believe the vultures carry their sould to paradise. I thought this was interesting because in the U.S. we would find this absolutely disrespectfull and grusome but in their culture it is looked at as paying respect.
