I think I actually understand the assignment now. Sorry.
Volumetric: This is an image of a castle in Europe. The architecture exemplifies volume, in the pillars that appear 3-D as they bulge away from the wall's structure.
Planar- This is a bridge/walkway/archway at the same castle in Europe. I think this is planar as the top of the archway has a flat, horizontal structure/surface.
The last image (of the skeletal looking barn) is Linear architecture. This is an image of my old barn in the process of being built. It is linear as all lines are either diagonal, horizontal, or vertical (no curvature).
