I'm having some trouble with the project. It's not visualizing it that is the problem...I understand the concept perfectly. It's translating it into the cube that's hard.
In my linear design, I can't find anything that will hold it together very well. Glue has proven flimsy, and the tape I tried to use didn't stick to anything but itself. I have a few more ideas, though.
For my planear design, it won't seem to work with planes. I connected the dots, but in the context of a cube, they don't finish themselves and I have planes that go from top corner to bottom corner to top corner to front bottom corner...it's all over the place and I can't figure out where the plane would even be! I've tried adding lines and such but it's still confusing. Maybe I will go exercise for awhile and clear my brain.
Anyone else having any problems, or anyone having a jolly time of it and would like to share genius tips?
cheers

Yeah, problems don't even begin to describe what I'm having. I've been working on the linear one, and at first it was going pretty well, besides not even being fully sure I grasp what the heck I'm supposed to be making. i made the frame for the thing, but then i started to try and actually add the linear elements, and it has been downhill ever since.
ReplyDeleteThe frame is so delicate because it's just some crazy shape with hardly any support, when i tried to add the linear parts, it's pulling on itself and ruining the shape of the frame. It's totally falling apart and I'm on the verge of tears because I've been working on it for so long! I haven't even started to think about the planar one, but it just occurred to me, even if I do get these finished, the likelihood of these getting to class in one piece is not very likely.
breathe. positive thoughts....fml
don't worry, I had the same problems when I finished my linear. Construction-wise, I think that it is going to be the hardest to put together. Once we get a plan for the planear ones, they at least have sides that will aid in stability. I finished my linear at one last night. Like you said, it's pretty much falling apart, but I build it to a base thing that at least helps, and I'm going to see if I can find some ways to keep it a bit more supported in an upright position.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck!
What materials are you using and how are you trying to get them to go together?
ReplyDeleteI used a wire hanger that I cut up, which was kinda fun. I went through two glues and packaging tape, but masking tape finally worked pretty well. The problem I have now is that the thing wasn't designed to stand up...just a bunch of lines on paper. So it's architecturally unsound. But accurate.
