I thought this ritual was pretty strange, and definitely not an American ritual. In India, they throw newborn infants off a 15 meter (50 feet) building in order to give the baby courage and strength. It is also believed the baby would be graced with good luck and fortune. I guess it is lucky for the baby that there are people waiting at the bottom to catch it! This ritual has been practiced for more than 700 years.
