The Gjantija altars are located inside the temples, in Gozo. ("Gozo is a small island of the Maltese archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea.") These altars were used for animal sacrifices, and held a sacred fire. Surrounding the altars were spiritual carvings dedicated to Mother Earth, the goddess of fertility. The alters were also used as a type of church were people went to pray.
